Raum_Fahrt
one-week mobile exhibition between Berlin and Lodz
Germany/Poland 2004Seven fine arts graduates - Mona Babl, Christine Berndt, Won-Yeon Chung, Kati Gausmann, Ricarda Mieth, Ulrike Mohr and Anja Sonnenburg – leave the weißensee academy of art berlin at the end of their studies and set off with 7 trucks for RAUM_FAHRT (Space_Travel). The planned route is Berlin-Lodz-Berlin, crossing the border at Frankfurt/Oder. Each truck transports the work of the artist driving it. At various staging points along the way the storage space of the HGVs is opened up as an exhibition space that visitors can enter and walk around in.
The writing on the vehicles, in German and Polish, RAUM (Space) FAHRT (Travel) UNTERWEGS (on the road) ZWISCHEN (between) BERLIN (Berlin) UND (and) LODZ (Lodz) conveys the message about the project to the outside world. As the trip progresses, spaces and words take on new constellations each time the convoy moves on to a new location. The stopping places are motorway service stations, public squares and exhibition venues. That takes the group on a journey oscillating between the art context and everyday life.
In Lodz the truck convoy is a guest of the city’s 1st International Biennale; invitation and exhibition layout - Karin Sander.
