  as part of the exhibition series in honour of Prof. Inge Mahn at Emerson Gallery
  Berlin 2009

  »Don't make art: we're here to work!« is one of the most striking phrases uttered by Inge Mahn, who mentored us during our studies. In the first instance, this sentence deconstructed our notion of art, pushed examination into the forefront of our engagement, and is an instruction that still resonates with us.
  »Mahnungen (Reminders)« plays with quotes from Inge Mahn that have stuck in our minds, just as the German title plays with her surname and the notion of reminding.

  Initially we positioned these phrases, glued on to removal boxes, in public spaces; subsequently we took the words as a starting point, dissecting, discarding and shaping them into new sentences. Finally, some of the boxes were piled up in the gallery.
