»blümerant« press comments
Nowadays advocates of linguistic purity like to make fun of the aberrations of "Denglisch" in the German we use every day. [...] French played a comparable role in the 18th and 19th century: it was the language generally used at courts across Europe. From 5th May to 17th June, Berlin-based artists’ group msk7 record the French influence on the Berlin dialect in a work entitled blümerant (=bleu mourant, fading blue, pale blue as a euphemism for “feeling queasy”).
(Kunstforum International, Volume 184, Jürgen Raap)
Mitte turns “faint-blue” with blümerant. Next Saturday the Gendarmenmarkt will be transformed into an oversize crossword.
